At the Harvest Classic, whether you come in 1st place or 500th place, you are a winner. You will hear your name announced as you cross the finish line, you will see your name on the results page and on the results Kiosks. You are a winner.
We know you can. You worked hard all year to get to this point. This might be your 1st 5k ever or you might be going for a personal record. The Harvest Classic in Longview is a special place to accomplish what you have set out for all year long. You CAN Do This!!!
Be one of the first to register for the Longview Early Edition Rotary Club's Harvest Classic 2013, scheduled for Saturday,
October 5th in Longview, WA. On-line registration has begun.
Last year's Harvest Classic raised over $10,000 for charity, $8750.00 of which was donated directly to the HELP Warehouse that feeds the hungry by providing food to the food banks in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum Counties. Can you help in our quest to raise over $12,500.00 in 2013?
For the second year, timing and on-line race registation and results will be provided by Uberthon's. As you know, Uberthons's did a fantastic job last year and they are working with us to make it a bigger and better event this year. Our goal is to have 1000 runners/walkers.
There are some big changes too! Based on a survey of 2012 participants, the 2.7 mile race has been replaced by a 5 kilometer (3.1 miles) course. The 10K course will continue as before.
As these distances are common (standard) road race distances, you can now directly compare times with several other Uberthon's-timed 5K and 10K races sponsored by other Rotary Clubs in Washington and Oregon. Imagine, you can become the Virtual National 5K or 10K Rotary Challenge Champion! (You don't have to be a Rotarian to compete, though Rotary International is always looking for new members who are dedicated to improving their communities and the World.)
Another cool addition: you can now sign up to have results sent to you by text message for a very nominal fee (part of which will be donated to charity)! Of course, you can always go to the Uberthon's web site for free and find race results and your own personal results webpage. The personal results page shows how you did in any Uberthon's-timed event and will probably have one or more photos of you.
In addition to shirts and prizes, we will have another souvenir opportunity. We will be selling special plaques to mount your Harvest Classic bib numbers (or numbers from your other favorite races). Speaking of bib numbers, Uberthon's provided beautiful number bibs last year. They agreed to do it again this year -- and make separate colored bibs for the 5K and 10K races.
So register now and tell all of your friends to join in the fun on the first Saturday of October.
Regards,
Kevin Rentner, Race Director
